The Financial System and its Participants: overview of the financial landscape, sell side vs. buy side, big names in finance.
Basic Financial Concepts: time value of money, equity vs. debt, convexity, capital structure.
Financial Accounting: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, principles of accounting.
Valuation: asset-based, DCF, and relative valuation.
Financial Statement Modeling: forecasting the three financial statements.
Excel Primer: how to use the most important Excel shortcuts and functions.
Merger and LBO Models: brief outline of the two other main financial models used in corporate finance.
Recruiting for Finance: overview of the recruiting process, resume-building, networking, and interviewing.
Our bonus lectures aim to expand our members' knowledge base and make them familiar with concepts which, despite not being widely taught by most undergraduate clubs, provide deeper understanding and insight into the financial system.
Factor Models: what factors are, how to use them to build factor models, and how to use factor models to evaluate the performance of a security.
The World of Hedge Funds: overview of different hedge fund strategies, how to evaluate funds, and where alpha comes from.
Derivatives: comprehensive outline of vanilla derivatives, overview of exotic options, arbitrage pricing theory, binomial trees, and Black-Scholes.
Securitization and the GFC: introduction to how securitization works and a timeline of the Great Financial Crisis. This final lecture aims to bring the historical impact of the financial markets on everyday life to the forefront and highlight the importance of knowing how the financial system works.
